Honda announced recalls for the Honda Odyssey and Acura MDX due to air bag flaws, according to Frenkel & Frenkel.
On the heels of a recall of 2013 Odyssey models due to stalling problems, Honda announced that models of the 2003-2004 Honda Odyssey and Acura MDX are being recalled for air bag flaws. The recalls are similar to those issued by other auto manufacturers, including those involving the Jeep Liberty and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Air Bag Problem The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received reports of at least six complaints of air bags deploying when there is no accident, and an additional 41 reports of an illuminated airbag warning light. No injuries have been reported because of the airbag flaws, however. Faulty Computer Chip The problem with the air bags lies in a computer chip found in the system that deploys the air bags. In some cases, electrical interference in the chip causes faults in the air bag system. The repair involves installing an electrical noise filter next to the control unit where the faulty chip is housed. These recalls are said to include 374,000 vehicles, with the majority (318,000) of them being Odyssey models. The recall also includes approximately 56,000 Acuras. Honda Repair Honda says that it will make the necessary repairs free of charge for any customer who has the faulty chip installed. However, they have not released a timeline for when customers will be notified they have a vehicle that is impacted in this recall.
