The popular acne medication Accutane has recently been linked to several severe side effects. Accutane is a synthetic form of Vitamin A that is made to alleviate severe acne symptoms. It is made by Hoffman La Roche, a drug manufacturer in the U.S. that brings in $1.2 billion annually on Accutane sales alone. The most severe side effects include Colitis, Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. These can be serious conditions that can affect your overall health and quality of life. The FDA requires that a black box warning is applied to containers of Accutane, warning of the risk associated with taking Accutane. Several lawsuits have been brought up against Hoffman La Roche, including a young man who suffered severe inflammatory bowel disease and needed most of his colon removed. Accutane has also been linked to severe birth defects and the possibility of miscarriage. Prescription providers needed to warn female patients of these possible side effects and inform them that they should not take Accutane while being pregnant. If a patient had conceived while taking Accutane they should have been advised to stop use immediately and contact a medical professional. Women who did not receive this warning have a legitimate reason to seek legal counsel and possible damages. Legal counsel is available to those who have used Accutane. If you or someone you know were prescribed Accutane and experienced severe side effects after the using Accutane, you have the right to file a lawsuit to cover the cost of medical expenses and compensation for the pain and suffering from the adverse side effects.
